Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves took a little flack when he signed a five-year, $148 million extension in October of this year. Not just surrounding the forward’s true worth, but the way it went down had a whole different vibe than many negotiations we’ve seen in the past.
For starters, Wolves’ owner Glen Taylor wanted to meet with Wiggins face-to-face before offering the extension and wanted something in return from his fourth-year player:
To me, by making this offer, I’m speculating that his contribution to the team will be more in the future. We’ve got to be better.
