It seemed improbable not that long ago, a young, raw team that second-year coach Bob Motzko was trying to mold in his image. It seemed like the Minnesota Gophers would need more time.
But then the wins started coming, and after an impressive road sweep of Notre Dame, Minnesota is 6-1-1 in the last eight, has moved into a tie for first place in the crowded Big Ten race, and is up to No. 16 in the Pairwise, knocking on the door of the national tournament again.
