Minnesota Track and Field: Gopher Men and Women Compete in NCAA West Regional

Several members of both the men’s and women’s Minnesota Golden Gophers track and field team are in Sacramento, California this weekend for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Sixteen members of the men’s team will compete in ten different events while nineteen members of the women’s team will compete in fourteen different events. The athletes will achieve to be one of the top-12 finishers in their various events which will get them a trip to the NCAA Track and Field Championship Finals in Eugene, Oregon in two weeks.

Competing for the Gopher men are:

400 Meters: Jonathan Webb, Jackson Wellenstein

800 Meters: Dawson LaRance, Chris Trotter

1,500 Meters: Derek Wiebke, Shane Streich

3,000 Meter Steeplechase: Obsa Ali, Alec Basten

4x400 Meter Relay: Jonathan Webb, Matthew Baker, Ben Psicihulis, Jackson Wellenstein

High Jump: Ryan Lockard

Long Jump: Mason Roomes

Triple Jump: Sammie Houston

Shot Put: Jonathan Tharaldsen

Hammer Throw: Kieran McKeag, Jon Nerdal

100 Meter Hurdles: Emma Spagnola

400 Meters: Emerald Egwim, Titania Markland

400 Meter hurdles: Emma Spagonla, Rachel Schow

5,000 Meters: Bethany Hasz

10,000 Meters: Megan Hasz

4x400 Meter Relay: Emerald Egwim, Titania Markland, Rachel Schow, Val Larson

3,000 Meter Steeplechase: Madeline Strandemo

Hammer Throw: Agnes Esser, Nayoka Clunis, Temi Ogunrinde

Shot Put: Kiley Sabin, Nayoka Clunis, Shay Nielsen

Discus: Agnes Esser, Kiley Sabin

Javelin: Nicolle Murphy, Ayesha Champagnie

High Jump: Heta Tuuri, Ashley Ramacher

Triple Jump: Shanique Wright

Pole Vault: Karlie Place

Heptathlon: Ayeshia Champagnie

The meet got underway on Thursday with Spagnola advancing to the quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles and Egwim and Markland advancing to the quarterfinals of the 400 meters for the Gopher women.
