Head coach Tracy Claeys announced this morning that linebacker Cody Poock will undergo surgery on his right shoulder and miss the rest of the season. Poock originally injured his shoulder against Penn State, causing him to miss games against Iowa and Maryland. In seven games this season, Poock totaled 24 tackles for the Gophers.
With Poock done, Minnesota will be shorthanded at middle linebacker against Nebraska on Saturday, as Nick Rallis will miss the first half due to that ridiculous targeting penalty in the closing minute of the Purdue game. Evidently the Big Ten does not review targeting penalties after the game is over, which is patently absurd considering the controversial enforcement of the targeting rule.
