Kaitlyn Long Wins NCAA Weight Throw National Championship

On Saturday, Kaitlyn Long won the weight throw to become the second national champion in University of Minnesota women’s track and field history. She threw for a winning mark of 23.3m, which for Americans is 76.05.05 feet on her final throw to leap from fifth to first. Long is the first national champion since Heather Dorniden won the 800m in 2006. Long’s throw is the 7th longest in history.

The weight thrown is 20 pounds, so briefly consider how badass it is to chuck an equivalent of a large bowling balls about a 14 of a way down a city block.
