Rachel Banham is ready to topple the all-time scoring record at the University of Minnesota, even though she has plenty of incentive to slow down.
The fifth-year senior guard needs 55 points to surpass Lindsay Whalen for the Gophers women's basketball record, and she is on pace to do so in the next three games.
But those games are all on the road, with the team playing at Kent State on Tuesday and in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico on Friday and Saturday, meaning the record is likely to fall away from Williams Arena.
"Some people have told me, 'Maybe you should just slow down, like average three points here,' and I was, like, 'You know, let's not jinx it and I go there and I cannot shoot and make a basket,' so I'm not going to think that way," Banham said.
