Once stuck inside her own head at the plate, Gophers senior Erica Meyer has learned to add by subtracting. The result is a career-high batting average that has helped Minnesota earn its third straight NCAA berth.
"You can go in the (batter's) box and let your mind fire a million things at once, and you are never going to accomplish anything because you are always trying to make adjustments," Meyer said.
"You need to pick one thing to say to yourself and stick with that one thing."
Meyer is batting .346 for the 15th-ranked Gophers (46-9), who open NCAA tournament play Friday with a regional semifinal against New Mexico State in Tucson, Ariz.
