Gophers senior guard Rachel Banham received a text message from Lindsay Whalen after breaking her career scoring record in Saturday's 81-79 overtime loss to Auburn in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Banham, who had 29 points, needed only 11 points entering the game to surpass Whalen, a former University of Minnesota All-American and Minnesota Lynx standout.
The Lakeville native now has 2,303 points in her career. Whalen had 2,285 points from 2000-04.
"Beating Lindsay is pretty cool," Banham said. "She's incredible. I love her. I'm one of her biggest fans for sure. She sent me a text after the game just saying, 'Congratulations.
