Gophers men's hockey: UMN wins Big Ten opener in OT

It took until the third period, but the Gophers were able to stop their skid at the start of conference play.

Junior forward Hudson Fasching scored just over a minute into overtime to stop the team's three game losing streak at home with a 3-2 victory over Ohio State on Friday night at Mariucci Arena.

The victory was Minnesota coach Don Lucia's 400th with the program.

The Gophers trailed 2-0 heading into the third period but rallied with power-play goals from freshman forwards Tyler Sheehy and Tommy Novak to tie the score.

Minnesota (5-7, 1-0 Big Ten) controlled the puck for much of the first period with a lineup featuring many new combinations, but the team was unable to come away with a goal.
