Gophers men's hockey: Bloodied Eric Schierhorn lifts UMN past Wisconsin

Eric Schierhorn had to get bloody for his third career shutout as the freshman goaltender led the Gophers men's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Wisconsin in a Big Ten Conference series opener Friday night at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.

Schierhorn made 29 saves, including a shot off his helmet from Benilde-St. Margaret's graduate Grant Besse late in the second period that caused a small cut above Schierhorn's eye.

Schierhorn skated to the Minnesota bench, was immediately treated and returned to action.

Minnesota (12-10-0, 7-2-0-0) had four goal scorers -- Hudson Fasching, Steve Johnson, Justin Kloos and Vinni Lettieri -- while Connor Reilly, Fasching and Kloos all had multi-point nights.
