Gophers hope to keep 'snake-bit' Cornhuskers down, out one more week

For Mike Riley, some morning this fall have felt like Groundhog Day. The first-year Cornhuskers football coach has rolled out of bed thinking about how his team lost yet another game at crunch time.

All four of Nebraska's losses over six weeks have come in the final 10 seconds of the game or in overtime. The latest gut punch came last week when Wisconsin kicked a field goal with four seconds left to win 23-21.

"Things that you kind of wake up every day thinking about," Riley said.

Riley has been coaching for 40 years across college, Canada and the NFL, including 23 seasons as a head coach, and he said this string of hard luck is unprecedented for him.
