Gophers football: Time runs out in loss to No. 2 TCU

After being snubbed from last season's inaugural College Football Playoff, Texas Christian wanted to "Leave No Doubt" during its nonconference slate this season.

The Horned Frogs came into Thursday's season opener against the University of Minnesota ranked No. 2, with a Heisman Trophy favorite, quarterback Trevone Boykin, leading one of the highest-scoring teams in the nation.

But the unranked Gophers eliminated uncertainty in their ability to play with the nation's best teams. Minnesota's defense held Boykin and the Horned Frogs within striking distance in a 23-17 loss before a record crowd of 54,147 at TCF Bank Stadium

But just like last season's 30-7 loss to TCU, the Gophers had damaging first-half turnovers that stifled a chance to pull off the upset.
