Gophers football: Ohio State just too much for Minnesota

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- As a 24-point underdog, the Gophers needed some good fortune to pull off the upset against No. 1 Ohio State on Saturday.

The opposite occurred when a scoreless game in the second quarter turned in favor of the Buckeyes during their 28-14 win over Minnesota before an announced crowd of 108,075 fans at Ohio Stadium.

When Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner threw an interception to Vonn Bell, which he returned 16 yards for a touchdown, Leidner was hit up high by Ohio State linebacker Joshua Perry.

Perry was flagged for targeting Leidner's head and neck area, but after an officials' review, the flag was picked up and the Buckeyes' touchdown return stood.
