Gophers football: Jerry Kill says father's advice helped him walk away

Jerry Kill said his retirement as Gophers football coach on Oct. 28 was the toughest thing he has gone through since his father Jim died from liver cancer in 1999.

On Tuesday, he said a message from his father helped with his decision to give up coaching Minnesota in mid-season and forfeit the $8.6 million he was set to earn in his contract through 2019.

"He always told me that no matter what you are getting paid, you give everything you've got and you don't cheat the person that is paying you," Kill said on Saluki Radio.
