Gophers football coach Jerry Kill retires, citing health

Gophers football coach Jerry Kill will retire effective immediately due to health reasons, the university announced Wednesday morning.

Associate head coach and defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys has been named interim head coach.

Kill has been diagnosed with epilepsy and has had multiple seizures during his coaching tenure at Minnesota. But at Big Ten media days in July, Kill reported that it had been a year and half since he had a seizure.

Kill has been the Gophers coach since 2011 and has a 29-29 record, including 4-3 this season. He has been a head coach since 1994, with a career 156-102 record and has been in coaching for 32 years.
