Gophers interim head coach Tracy Claeys said Tuesday he's optimistic that "interim" will be removed from his title with a new contract before Saturday night's game at No. 8 Iowa.
"I'm hopeful we will hear something this week but have not had a chance to do that," Claeys said during his weekly news conference. "This Floyd of Rosedale (trophy) is a pretty big deal."
Claeys and interim athletics director Beth Goetz reportedly met last Thursday and Friday before the Gophers' 28-14 loss to No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday night. Claeys said that night kickoff followed by preparation for the Hawkeyes (9-0, 5-0 Big Ten) has kept him from meeting with U officials so far this week.
