Two weeks before the Sept. 3 season opener against Texas Christian, Gophers football coach Jerry Kill finally got to see his players performing in a scrimmage Thursday night under the bright lights at TCF Bank Stadium.
Kill came away impressed with some newcomers, but a returning player in a new role stole the show.
Backup quarterback Chris Streveler proved how valuable he might be this season if he plays a different position.
"He's just competitive," Kill said. "Somebody looked and said he's like a Tim Tebow-type guy. He's lined up at tight end. He's lined up at H-back.
