Gophers basketball: Amir Coffey makes it official, signs letter of intent

Hopkins four-star guard Amir Coffey signed his letter of intent Wednesday with the University of Minnesota to officially give the Gophers a top-25 recruiting class for 2016.

Coffey, the state of Minnesota's top senior prospect, joined Rochester John Marshall wing Michael Hurt and Southwest Christian Academy (Ark.) power forward Eric Curry in signing to play for Richard Pitino next season.

The 6-foot-7 Coffey ranks No. 33 in the class of 2016 by ESPN.com. Hurt and Curry are both three-star recruits by several recruiting services.
