Defending champion Oklahoma Sooners top finalists at NCAA men's gymnastics championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Defending champion Oklahoma had the highest qualifying score on the opening day of the NCAA men's gymnastics championships Friday.

The Sooners, who will go for their 10th title Saturday night, finished at 441.2, well ahead of Minnesota (426.4) and 12-time champion Penn State (423.95) in the early session.

Stanford had the top score in the late session at 434.35, followed by host Ohio State (433.4), which is chasing its first national title since 2001. The other finals qualifier was Illinois, which has won 10 team championships.
