College women's hockey: UMN defensemen show off their offense in win over Yale

The Gophers' top-ranked offense is built on the strength of its forwards, but Saturday night the defensemen took control, scoring three goals in a 4-1 nonconference victory over Yale at Ridder Arena.

Minnesota (13-1-0) swept the weekend series over the Bulldogs (1-6-1), winning 6-3 Friday night.

"It is really exciting to see," junior defenseman Lee Stecklein said. "We think of ourselves as one big line, so we get excited when we score."

Stecklein scored the Gophers' only even-strength goal of the game, taking the puck down the ice and scoring on a wrist shot at 12:51 of the second period.
