When Wesley Matthews first signed with the Milwaukee Bucks last summer not long into free agency, all Bucks fans knew it wouldn’t be just an ordinary addition.
Long before his 11-year NBA career, and before he became one of the best players to stick in the league after going undrafted in the 2009 NBA Draft, Matthews’ basketball story started in Wisconsin.
The son of former NBA player, Wes Matthews Sr., Matthews Jr. first rose to prominence as a standout player at Madison Memorial during high school, eventually winning Mr. Basketball back in 2005.
After spurning the Badgers and the University of Wisconsin following his high school career, Matthews further embedded himself in the state’s rich basketball history at Marquette University between 2005-2009 and became a fan favorite in Milwaukee.
