Luka Doncic’s torrid start to 2026/27 continued on Friday as the Lakers superstar poured in a season-high 53 points in the comeback victory over Portland, per Ben Golliver of ESPN.com.
“Luka can do some things that maybe a handful, if not no one, can do in basketball,” head coach JJ Redick said.
Through nine games, Doncic is averaging a career-high 40.1 points per contest. The only player to record more points than Doncic through his first nine games of a season is Wilt Chamberlain, who achieved the feat in both 1961/62 and ’62/63, according to ESPN research.
