Eric Lauer to begin regular season on Injured List with shoulder impingement

The competition for the final spot in the starting rotation for the Milwaukee Brewers has gone from three candidates down to two. Earlier this afternoon, manager Craig Counsell revealed that left-hander Eric Lauer has been dealing with a shoulder impingement. He will not be ready for Opening Day and is expected to begin the year on the Injured List.

Eric Lauer, competing for fifth starter job for Brewers, dealing with left shoulder impingement, relatively minor but issue does rule out start of the season, Counsell said.

The injury is not believed to be something that will sideline Lauer for the long-term, and for his part the southpaw is downplaying the issue.
