Brewers surprise Nevin Ashley with his first taste of the majors

Miami — When catcher Nevin Ashley headed for his locker Monday after Class AAA Colorado Springs played the final game of its season, he was approached by manager Rick Sweet. Ashley figured Sweet was going to wish him a good off-season.

Instead, Sweet told Ashley he had been called up by the Milwaukee Brewers. When you've spent 10 years in the minors with nary a day in the big leagues, it takes a couple of minutes to process that information.

"It's been 10 years waiting so it was definitely a good feeling," said Ashley, who was signed as a minor-league free agent by the Brewers in January.
