The Brewers were in the middle of a game with the Los Angeles Dodgers when the team announced a transaction with their opponents.
In exchange for cash, the Brewers acquired outfielder Steward Berroa. The 26-year-old debuted with the Blue Jays last season and has spent this year in Triple-A. Since his move into Los Angeles’ system, Berroa has a .330 batting average and an .857 OPS in 119 plate appearances.
The right-handed pitcher Elvin Rodriguez was meanwhile designated for assignment. He has an 8.68 ERA this season in 18 2⁄3 innings in the majors, but hadn’t pitched for the big-league club since May 7.
