Passer-by stabbed to death outside migrant hostel in Hartlepool is named by police as 70-year-old Terrence Carney who 'had recently used a cash machine' - as counter terror cops quiz 'asylum seeker' over attack that left another man injured

A man who was stabbed to death outside a migrant hostel in Hartlepool had 'used a cash machine' moments before he was killed, police have revealed.

Cleveland Police say they believe 70-year-old Terrence Carney was a passer-by when he was knifed to death in Wharton Terrace in the town on Sunday morning.

A second man who was also hurt in the incident, which is believed to have started at a house shared by asylum seekers at 5.30am, remains in hospital.

A 44-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder remains in custody after police were given an additional 12 hours to question him.
