Middlesbrough have granted Rob Edwards permission to speak to Wolverhampton Wanderers after dramatically accusing the Premier League club of an illegal approach for their manager.
The North Yorkshire side stood Edwards down for today's match against Birmingham City after he showed interest in filling the managerial vacancy at Wolves.
Boro say they initially rejected an approach from the Black Country club because the 42-year-old had only signed a three-year deal this summer.
But the head coach was enticed by the approach by Wolves, who are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, and he is now in pole position to take over at the Molineux.
