Catholic primary school deputy head who secretly watched child rape videos on the dark web while his wife and own child slept is banned from teaching for life

A deputy school headteacher, who watched child rape videos while his family were in bed, has been banned from teaching for life.

Richard Swinnerton, 31, worked at St Clare’s primary school in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire.

But his career is now in tatters following the revelations, despite him being spared an immediate jail sentence.

A Teaching Regulation Agency disciplinary panel heard that he watched the clips on the dark web while his wife and child were in bed.

And during the hearing, Swinnerton - who was also his Catholic school’s deputy safeguarding lead - admitted being attracted to children after he was caught with sex abuse videos at his home.
