SMYRNA -- Stewarts Creek (2-1, 2-0) held on to a late lead at home Saturday afternoon, defeating Region 5-6A foe John Overton (0-3, 0-2) 30-21.
Stewarts Creek's defense proved strong in the first half despite giving up a score early in the second quarter, a 22-yard run by Keidron Henderson. Henderson ran for 141 yards on the afternoon.
Senior kicker Joel Aguero began the scoring for the Red Hawks with a 32-yard field goal early in the first quarter. After a tipped interception in the second that led to a missed 32-yard field goal by Overton, Stewarts Creek's Tayne Davis completed a 58-yard pass to sophomore wideout TK Hughes.
