SMYRNA -- After digging their way out of a hole to win the District 7 AAA tournament, the Smyrna softball team couldn't escape the "quicksand" of a nine-run second inning by Coffee County on Monday night.

The Lady Bulldogs saw their season end at 31-14 in a Mercy Rule shortened 11-0 loss to the visiting Lady Raiders in the first round of the Region 4-AAA tournament.

Riverdale's season also came to end on Monday night with an 8-3 loss to District 8-AA champion Lawrence County on the road.

"It was like quicksand -- one thing happened, then the next thing happened, then the next, and before you know it you've gone through all three pitchers and you're just looking for something," said Smyrna coach Lonnie Drayton.
