EL PASO, Texas - UTEP's fast start proved to be the difference in key early-season conference showdown as Middle Tennessee suffered a 84-73 setback in front of 1,255 at the Don Haskins Center Thursday night.
Middle Tennessee surrendered 25 first-quarter points and trailed 45-30 at the half before storming out of the locker room following intermission and giving the Miners (12-1, 3-0) a fight to the finish.
Six Blue Raiders registered double figures led by freshman Alex Johnson's 15 points. Gabby Lyon had a season-high 11 points and led Middle Tennessee with six rebounds. Brea Edwards and Rebecca Reuter each scored 11, and Ty Petty and Olivia Jones tallied 10 each.
