JACKSON -- Senior right-hander Sam Alton carried MTSU to a 3-1 win against Memphis Wednesday in a rain-shortened, six-inning contest at the Ballpark at Jackson.
Alton recorded all but one out in the contest, pitching five and two-thirds innings while recording nine strikeouts to just three walks and allowing only three hits and one earned run.
Junior shortstop Riley Delgado recorded three singles and an RBI at the plate to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Alton started the night strong, striking out two Memphis batters in the first inning.
After allowing the Tigers to load the bases in the top of the second, Alton worked out of the jam to preserve the scoreless tie.
