High winds, Monarch bats spoil Blue Raiders’ C-USA Opener

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Amid the wind gusts of a blustery Friday afternoon, the Middle Tennessee baseball team had its pitches find Old Dominion bats too often, falling 23-7 in the Blue Raiders' Conference USA Opener at Reese Smith Jr. Field.

The Blue Raiders (7-11, 0-1 C-USA) smacked 14 hits of their own on Friday, led by four off the bat of JT Mabry, who scored two of MT's runs and earned two RBIs in his five at-bats.

But, the Monarchs (15-1, 1-0 C-USA) were best able to take advantage of the wind blowing out to right-center field with their 24 hits, earning 21 of their 23 runs despite five Blue Raider errors.
