The MTCS Lady Cougars battled the whole way with District 9-A leader Community on Friday, but eventually fell 62-53 at home.
Meanwhile, the MTCS boys dominated from the outset and defeated the Vikings 66-43.
Each team traded baskets in the girls game with MTCS (17-5, 7-3) jumping out to an early 12-7 lead halfway through the first frame of play, but Community (20-2, 9-1) ended the final four minutes with a 10-2 run to take a 17-14 lead going into the second.
The Viqueens carried the momentum, scoring the first 11 points of the second period.
