COLUMN: A Signing Class with Gravel in Their Guts

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — So many metaphorical barrels of ink have been spilled over my time covering college football about the changes that have happened to the world of recruiting. Signing limits (or the lack thereof), early signing day, the transfer portal, graduate transfers, NIL collectives, to just name the stuff that goes on in the world of regulated recruiting, all of which is important to be aware of the 2023.

But after attending the 15th annual MTSU Signing Day Celebration, I was taken aback by as much as all of those important changes have affected things at a macro level, the core of college football recruiting remains the same in 2023 as it was when Rick Stockstill was being recruited to Florida State as a quarterback in 1977: Get guys that have been successful at their previous stop into your program.
