Rutherford County teams went 5-3 in high school football action this week. Oakland laid the wood to Riverdale in the Battle of the 'Boro. The Patriots defense held Warrior running back Savion Davis to 38 yards after he had three-consecutive 200-yard rushing games. Eagleville stayed hot, winning its fourth game in five tries and Smyrna picked up a nice region victory over Overton.
Injury-riddled La Vergne played one of its better games of the season, but fell just short in a heartbreaking game. Blackman kept rolling, shutting down Lelan Wilhoite in the process, and MTCS routed Ezell Harding.
