STATESBORO, Ga. — Up against a tough field and a stiff breeze, Middle Tennessee men's golf finished the first round of the Schenkel Invitational in seventh place Friday at 291 (+3), five strokes out of the top three. Michael Barnard led the Blue Raiders with a 69 (-3) in the first round.
Barnard recorded his second consecutive under-par round, starting the tournament with four birdies and an eagle in the first round. He heads into the second round in a tie for fifth place individually, four strokes off the lead.
Markus Varjun added an even-par 72 Friday, ending the day in a tie for 19th place.
