MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Adding to his already impressive accolades, Middle Tennessee javelin thrower John Ampomah has been named 2015 Sports Writers Association of Ghana's (SWAG) Male Athlete of the Year.
Ampomah, a senior from Accra, Ghana, owns the Ghana national javelin record, which he set in the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville. His throw of 82.94 meters (272-1) won him silver at the games.
The Ghana native previously set the national record at the Penn Relays with his 81.55 meter (267-6), which is also the Middle Tennessee record.
Ampomah finished second in the javelin at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and never placed lower than second in 10 meets during the 2015 campaign.
