Ampomah finishes third at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Oregon – In his final event for the Blue Raiders, placed third in the javelin, while two Middle Tennessee runners advanced to the 800 meter final at Hayward Field Wednesday.

Ampomah, who entered the meet without losing in the javelin in 2016, netted his best throw of the NCAA Championships in his first attempt, tossing the javelin 76.44 meters (250-9).

The Ghana native held the top rank until the fifth round when Mississippi State's Curtis Thompson launched a 77.64 meter throw (254-9), which would win him the event.

Texas A&M's Ioannis Kyriazis jumped to second on his final attempt of the day, throwing 77.
