AKRON, Ohio -- Senior Savannah Fruin went 3-for-4 from the plate with 5 RBI and a pair of home runs, as Akron's offense exploded in a 10-2 victory over Miami to advanced to the third round of the 2017 Mid-American Conference tournament Thursday night.
Through four innings, the Zips led the RedHawks, 6-2. Akron went on to plate four runs in the top of the fifth inning to push its lead to eight (10-2). Freshman Lexie Handley came out in the bottom half of the inning and set the RedHawks down 1-2-3 to complete the five inning victory.
