Former Cal QB Ross Bowers to transfer to Northern Illinois

The reigning MAC champions added more quarterback depth for the 2019 season.

Former California quarterback Ross Bowers will move from the West Coast to Northern Illinois as a graduate transfer. The news was first reported Friday morning by Bowers’ father, John, on Twitter.

Bowers had been in Berkeley since 2015, but the 2017 season was Bowers’ lone campaign as the Golden Bears’ starter. During that season, Bowers completed 59% of his passes for 3,039 yards, throwing 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He started all 12 games for Cal and finished with a 5-7 record.

The only on-field action Bowers saw in 2018 was during the first half of a 24-17 Week 1 win over North Carolina.
