CLEVELAND, Ohio - University of Akron senior high jumper Claudia Garcia Jou(Barcelona, Spain) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week honoree the league announced on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
Maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average in her master's exercise physiology curriculum at Akron, Garcia was recognized after turning in the top collegiate mark (6-2/1.88m) in the nation this season en route to placing second based on jumps in the high jump at the Penn State National on Jan. 30.
Her jump equaled the clearance Jeannelle Schepper, former South Carolina standout, who won the 2015 NCAA Outdoor high jump title.
