MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's basketball team (0-1) opened its season with an 80-38 loss to Big Ten foe Purdue (1-0) Wednesday night in Worthen Arena.

For the game, Ball State was led offensively by senior guard Nakeya Penny who chipped in 13 points while teammate sophomore forward Oshlynn Brown finished the game with 11. Freshman guard Abi Haynes led the Cardinals defensively with five rebounds.

Today's game turned out to be a classic case of veterans versus youth, as Purdue returned four of their five starters from last year's squad while Ball State welcomed three true freshmen to its starting lineup.
