Akron's Daumantas Venckus Named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week
Senior defensive end Daumantas Venckus helped the Akron defense in the 65-38 win at Marshall. Venckus recorded a career-high six tackles, his first fumble recovery, and his first touchdown, a 35-yard fumble returned for a touchdown in the win at Marshall. It was Akron’s first defensive touchdown since defensive back DeAndre Scott’s 37-yard interception return at Buffalo on Nov. 11, 2014.
A native of Weston, Fla., Venckus posts a 3.706 GPA while pursuing his MBA in Management. Trailing 21-7 at the time, Venckus’ recovery and touchdown at Marshall changed the Zips’ momentum for the rest of the game.
