AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's soccer team will open its 2016 campaign ranked No. 2 nationally after the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its preseason poll on Tuesday, August 2.
The Zips received 567 points in the initial poll, including two first-place votes as the top team in the country. Akron was 12 points behind preseason favorite and defending NCAA College Cup champion Stanford.
"I'm happy to be recognized as one of the favorites heading into the season," Zips' head coach Jared Embick commented. "I hope this creates excitement around our team in the community and with our students and fans.
