Miami took a 14 to 3 lead into the half, and it was looking like another Kent State loss. George Bollas led the Golden Flashes down the field on a long drive to start the second half and capped it with a 4 yard touchdown pass to Justin Rankin.
After forcing a Miami punt, he started and ended the next drive with an 84 yard touchdown pass to Mike Carrigan, giving Kent State the lead 17-14. The punt fest that ensued was only interrupted by a Miami missed field goal that would have tied it with over 7 minutes left in the game.
