Why Michigan-MSU rivalry week feels different this year

Michigan and Michigan State will square off Saturday with little more than bragging rights at stake.

The Wolverines (5-3, 2-3 Big Ten) and Spartans (2-6, 0-5) are both enduring down years, meaning Saturday’s outcome will have little bearing on the Big Ten race.

On the latest episode of the “Wolverine Confidential” podcast, MLive’s Ryan Zuke, Andrew Kahn and Aaron McMann discuss the subdued buildup to this year’s rivalry matchup.

Both teams have bottom-three offenses in the conference, and the game landed on Peacock rather than a traditional broadcast network.

“When neither one of these two teams are playing particularly well, it kind of loses its nationwide appeal,” McMann said.
