Tempers flared between the Michigan Wolverines and Maryland Terrapins on Friday afternoon, leading to a bench-clearing situation and the ejection of head coach Juwan Howard from the game. Michigan would win the game 79-66 to move on to the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
The television broadcast was able to grab the scuffle from a few angles, but it still remains clear what was said that led to Howard’s outburst. Associate head coach Phil Martelli would take over in Howard’s place for the rest of the game.
Michigan took the first two games of the season series against Maryland, but there had not been a ton of bad blood between the two teams.
