Salary database: Beilein is compensated well

Michigan basketball coach John Beilein’s teams haven't performed at an elite level the past couple of years -- missing the NCAA tournament in 2015 and only reaching the first round this season -- but he's still being compensated like an elite coach.

Beilein ranked 12th nationally and third in the Big Ten this season, with a total compensation of $2.84 million, according to a USA TODAY analysis of coaches in the 68-team NCAA tournament field.

Among his conference peers, he only trails Michigan State's Tom Izzo, whose team was ranked No. 1 at one point this season, and Indiana’s Tom Crean, whose team won the Big Ten regular-season title.
