Saginaw Spirit sign top pick Cole Perfetti away from U-M hockey

SAGINAW, MI - Cole Perfetti hasn't played a game in the Ontario Hockey League yet, but he's already a 16-year-old veteran.

Perfetti, who had committed to play for the University of Michigan, signed Wednesday with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League. Saginaw picked the 5-foot-10 center with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 OHL Draft.

"It wasn't an easy choice, but I know that in the OHL I'll play with and compete with future NHL players every game," Perfetti said. "Every day, I'm going to be with NHL draft picks who will push me to become better every day.
